New Patients
What to expect from your first visit.
No surprises. We explain everything before we arrive, during treatment, and after — so you know exactly what's happening and why.
Your first appointment
The main goal of your first visit is to reach a clear diagnosis and understand your goals. Before we arrive, we'll send you a brief new-patient form to complete — this saves time and helps us prepare.
Your chiropractor will conduct a thorough assessment including postural analysis, range of motion testing, and orthopaedic and neurological evaluation. Where appropriate, your first adjustment may take place on the same visit. We always explain our findings, discuss your proposed treatment plan, outline realistic alternatives, and answer your questions before proceeding with any hands-on treatment.
Your second visit
By your second visit, your chiropractor has a full picture of your condition. We'll review any imaging or test results and present your personalised care plan — including the recommended treatment frequency, expected duration, and the goals we're working toward together.
Think of your treatment programme like a course of medicine — it's most effective when completed in full. Most people begin noticing meaningful improvement within their first few visits, with the full benefit building over the course of treatment.
How will I feel after my session?
Everyone responds differently to their first chiropractic treatment. Here are the most common experiences:
Immediate relief
Many patients feel significant improvement straight away — reduced pain, easier movement, and a sense of release in tight areas.
Initial soreness
Some people experience mild muscle soreness for 24–48 hours, similar to post-exercise aches. This is normal and resolves quickly as your body adapts.
Shifting sensations
Pain may move slightly or change character as joint mechanics change. This is a normal part of the process and usually indicates positive change.
Gradual improvement
For longstanding conditions, full improvement may take several sessions. Most patients notice meaningful change within 3–6 visits.
What if I feel sore?
Any discomfort after chiropractic treatment is typically minor and short-lived. Here's how to look after yourself in the hours following your visit:
- Apply an ice pack (wrapped in a cloth) to sore areas for 15–20 minutes
- Drink plenty of water to support tissue healing
- Do the stretches or exercises your chiropractor prescribes
- Avoid heavy lifting or intense exercise for 24–48 hours after your first visit
- Sleep on a supportive mattress — ask us about your pillow height if neck pain is a concern
- Contact us if you have any concerns — we're always happy to advise
